## Estimates for information only

The results on this site are estimates of payroll withholding, produced from the published IRS, Social Security Administration and state formulas listed on each page. They are for general information and are not tax, legal, payroll or financial advice.

## Withholding is not your final tax bill

Withholding is the amount an employer takes out of each paycheck. Your actual tax for the year is settled when you file your return and can be higher or lower than what was withheld. A large bonus, a second job, investment income, credits or deductions can all change the final number.

## Your employer’s payroll may differ

Employers can use different, equally valid IRS methods, round at different steps, or apply deductions in a different order. Their figures can therefore differ slightly from ours. Your pay stub is the authoritative record of what was actually withheld.

## Check the source

Each calculator lists the tax year it uses and links to the official sources behind every rate and table. If a figure looks wrong, compare it against those sources or ask a qualified tax professional.
